STATUS: Consultation

ADDRESS: The former Holland Garden Centre, Darwen Road, Bromley Cross BL7 9AB

Lidl are committed to public consultation and we are therefore delighted to be able to provide members of the local community with an overview of the proposed development. This website enables you to view the public consultation leaflet, which was recently sent to local addresses, as well as download the most recent plans for the site.

The site comprises the former Holland Garden Centre which is located to the south of Darwen Road. The site is currently derelict and not in use.

The site is located to the west of a railway line which connects Bromley Cross Railway Station with Rochdale and Clitheroe, to the east of Birthenshaw School and to the north of Oaks Lane with an area of green open space located beyond. The immediate surrounding area can be described as predominantly residential in nature with housing located to the north, east and west of the site.

Proposal

Lidl propose to redevelop the site, to provide a new Lidl supermarket, a commuter car park which is designed to serve Bromley Cross Railway Station, a retirement living development and new football pitches for Bromley Cross Football Club.

The new Lidl store will be located to the north west of the site and will extend to 1,900 sq m, gross internal area, with a net retail sales area of 1,256 sq m. The new store will feature a dedicated in-store bakery close to the main entrance and the delivery bay will be located to the south of the store. Car parking will be positioned to the north and east of the store with 123 car parking spaces proposed.

The commuter car park will be located to the north east of the site, adjacent to Darwen Road. The car park will comprise 94 spaces and has been designed to serve Bromley Cross Railway Station with a view to easing current kerbside parking pressures in the area.

To the south of the site, circa. 10 acres of land will provide an opportunity for new playing pitches for Bromley Cross Football Club, allowing the club to secure improved facilities and expand its offer.

The new proposal will provide the following benefits to the local area:

  • A brand new Lidl store that will provide a clean and fresh shopping experience to meet the needs of customers;
  • A dedicated in-store bakery;
  • A contemporary building design that will complement the surrounding area;
  • A new commuter car park;
  • Employment opportunities for local residents, including Living Wage Foundation rates for all eligible employees and no zero hours contacts;
  • New playing pitches for Bromley Cross Football Club; and
  • Retirement living accommodation.
