The site for the proposed store is located to the south of Golborne Town Centre and is positioned to the east of Bridge Street. The site extends to 0.8 ha, is irregular in shape, and is currently occupied by a single storey industrial unit that forms part of Millingford Industrial Estate which fronts onto Bridge Street.

To the north, east and south, the site is bound by trees and shrubs, with the Millingford Brook running roughly along the sites northern and eastern boundaries. Bridge Street runs the full length of the sites western boundary, with residential properties beyond. The immediate surrounding area is characterised predominantly by industrial units, as well as residential properties located to the west.

Proposal

Lidl propose to develop a new store on the site which will feature an attractive, single storey glazed frontage to Bridge Street, with the car park extending to the north of the store.

The new store will extend to 1,934 sq m gross internal area (GIA), with a net retail sales area of 1,286 sq m. The new store will feature a dedicated in-store bakery close to the main entrance. The delivery bay will be located to the east of the store.

Access will be taken from Bridge Street along the site’s western boundary. The car park will provide 80 standard parking spaces, with 8 disabled spaces, and 8 parent and child spaces, which will be positioned close to the customer entrance. The car park will provide 96 spaces in total.

Dedicated pedestrian access will be provided from Bridge Street to the west of the site, giving direct access to the store entrance through the car park. Bicycle parking will be provided under the entrance canopy on the northern elevation, close to the store entrance and pedestrian access route.

It is proposed that the store will be open between the hours of:

  • 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday (including Bank Holidays); and
  • 10am to 4pm Sunday.

Normally there will be a maximum of two HGV deliveries to the store per day. All store waste will be collected at the same time as the deliveries, therefore minimising HGV movements within the site.

Opportunity to comment

A public exhibition will be held on Tuesday 6th February 2018 at Golborne Library, Tanners Lane, Golborne, WA3 3AW, from 1pm to 6pm.

2,459 leaflets were posted to local residents and businesses surrounding the site informing them of the proposal. The leaflet included a pre-paid response card inviting people to provide comments. The brochure can be viewed via the ‘download pdf’ button to the right of this page.
