ADDRESS: Bridge Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 3AA
Lidl are committed to public consultation and we are therefore delighted to be able to provide members of the local community with an overview of the proposed development. This website enables you to view the public consultation leaflet, which was recently sent to local addresses, as well as download the most recent plans for the site.
The sites forms part of the Stockton-On-Tees Town Centre and is located to the south of Tower Street, the north west of the Riverside Road (A1305) and the east of Bridge Road. The site is currently occupied by a mix of commercial, community and office uses, an area of car parking situated within the north eastern section of the site and an area of open space situated to the south east. The site is irregular in shape and extends to 0.9 hectares in size.
The surrounding area can be described as commercial in nature, characterised by a large multi-storey car park with the Castlegate Shopping Centre beyond to the north, a bingo hall, casino and Jewson’s buildings merchants located to the east, the A1305 is located to the south with beyond this a Halfords and Matalan and an area of open space located to the west with the Job Centre and various commercial retail facilities located to the north west.
Lidl propose to develop a new store on the site, which will feature an attractive, single storey glazed frontage to Riverside Road (A1305). The new store will extend to 1,975 sqm gross internal area (GIA), with a net retail sales area of 1,300 sqm. The new store will feature a dedicated in-store bakery close to the main entrance. The delivery bay will be located to the north of the store.
The new Lidl store will provide the following benefits to the local area:
- A brand new store that will provide a clean and fresh shopping experience to meet the needs of customers;
- A contemporary building design that will complement the surrounding area;
- A dedicated in-store bakery;
- Employment opportunities for local residents; and
- Living Wage Foundation rate for all eligible employees and no zero hours contracts.
The new access is proposed from Tower Street located at the site’s northern boundary. The car park will provide 115 standard parking spaces with 8 disabled spaces, which will be positioned close to the customer entrance. The car park will provide 123 spaces in total.
Dedicated pedestrian access will be provided from Tower Street to the north of the site and the A1305 Riverside Road located to the east of the site. Bicycle parking will be provided under the entrance canopy on the stores southern elevation, located close to the store entrance.
It is proposed that the store will be open between the hours of:
- 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday (including Bank Holidays); and
- 10am to 4pm Sunday.
Normally there will be a maximum of two HGV deliveries to the store per day. All store waste will be collected at the same time as the deliveries, therefore minimising HGV movements within the site.
