Ocado’s First Customer Fulfilment Centre For Scotland

Have Your Say

Ocado is proposing to submit a planning application for its first Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) in Scotland at Condor Glen, Eurocentral, Motherwell. This will provide the essential distribution network to support Ocado’s grocery deliveries across Scotland and provides significant investment and new job opportunities in the region. We are seeking the views of the local community on the proposal. This webpage provides more information on the proposals including how and when you can provide feedback.

About Ocado Retail

Ocado Retail is an online-only grocery shopping retailer which has been serving customers for over 20 years. Offering 100% home delivery for all its orders, Ocado is the biggest grocery retail platform of its kind in the world. Ocado Retail today reaches over 74% of British households, shipping over 330,000 orders per week.

The proposed CFC will be Ocado’s first such facility in Scotland, and the 8th in the UK. It will assist in widening the reach of Ocado’s online deliveries in Scotland.

The Proposal

The proposal is for a new Ocado distribution centre – known as a ‘customer fulfilment centre’ or ‘CFC’. The CFC will service Ocado’s online grocery operation, including warehousing of goods, ‘picking’ of products and deliveries to customers.

The CFC will comprise approximately 29,000 sqm of warehouse, ancillary office and maintenance floorspace. Dedicated parking for all users (staff, vans and HGVs) will be provided as well as new landscaping provision across the site.

The CFC facilities will be built in accordance with the latest sustainability and energy consumption regulations, to provide an energy efficient, sustainable and state of the art operation.

It is anticipated that a planning application for the CFC will be submitted to North Lanarkshire Council in Autumn 2021.

A suite of draft planning documents can be found at the bottom of this webpage.

The Site

The site is part of the Eurocentral industrial area which already supports a number of warehouse and distribution uses. The site will be accessed from Condor Glen with easy access to the M8 motorway via McNeil Drive.

To the south-east of the site is the XPO logistics warehouse and to the North West is BCA Automotive.

Benefits of the Proposed Development

The proposal will bring a number of benefits to the locality and to the region more widely, including:

  • Providing significant employment opportunities with the creation of around 1,700 new jobs (full time and part time positions) when the site is in operation;
  • The new job opportunities will be wide ranging, including drivers, warehouse operatives, office and administration staff and management positions, with full training and skills development opportunities provided;
  • Significant inward-investment boost to both North Lanarkshire’s and the wider Scottish economy, equating to circa £80m;
  • Improving the capacity of Ocado’s distribution network to Scotland increasing the reach of Ocado’s online deliveries;
  • A high quality, energy efficient building complementing existing Eurocentral occupiers; and
  • Supply chain opportunities for local businesses.
