The project
Ormiston Latimer Academy is a four storey Grade II Listed alternative provision School for students aged 11-16. The school’s main building has a total of 112 dilapidated and non-operable timber casement and sash windows.
The objective of this project was to assess, access, repair, refurbish and redecorate all the windows and undertake other miscellaneous external repairs whilst the scaffolding was in place to a high standard, in keeping with the historic nature of the school buildings.
The works were to be competitively procured traditionally to specialist contractors.
Works were to be completed during a short timeframe with the construction period being limited to the six-week school summer holiday period.
Our solution
Acting as Lead consultant Rapleys was able to assembly a highly qualified team.
Rapleys’ specialist Planning team assisted with the Listed Building Consent Application and Planning Application required for this project.
Our building surveying team surveyed and photographed each window, compiling a detailed tender pack including drawings. The windows were tested for lead coatings, and all works were completed in strict accordance with The Control of Lead (CLAW) Regulations 2002.
Following receipt of the competitive tenders, the project was separated into two phases.
The first phase of the project was delivered under budget and on time. The second phase will hopefully be undertaken during the coming 2026 summer holiday period.
Throughout the project, Rapleys were able to suggest creative solutions to the restrictions of the site, enabling the project to proceed as planned without inconveniencing the school and their operations.
