The project

Rapleys were instructed by Moto Hospitality Limited to submit a full planning application for the construction and operation of a Photovoltaic (‘PV’) Solar Farm with potential capacity up to 7MW on land at Moto Wetherby Motorway Service Area (MSA).

The main driver for the construction of a solar farm at this location is to provide electricity to power the EV charging station at the Wetherby MSA operated by Moto. The proposal forms part of a wider strategy by Moto to reduce carbon emissions and assist the UK in reaching their net zero targets. Rapleys were required to take the proposal through the planning process and obtain a permission.

Our solution

  • Undertaking pre-application consultation with North Yorkshire Council, submitting an EIA Screening Opinion Request to the Council and carrying out public consultation with the local community
  • Coordinating and submitting a Full Planning Application to the Council
  • Chasing consultee responses and liaising with technical consultants to resolve issues
  • Creating effective solutions to material planning considerations and submitting rebuttals to the Council
  • Working efficiently with both the Council and external consultants to obtain a permission
