RAAC Remediation Project
The project
A client in the Automotive industry instructed Rapleys to act as Lead Designer, Project Manager and Contract Administrators for a RAAC remedial project at a car dealership premises in Surrey. The car dealership was found to have a deleterious material (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) which formed the car dealerships roof. We considered and provided budget costs for various solutions which ranged from wholesale replacement to installing a secondary structure to support and encapsulate the RAAC. Ultimately, it was found to be most cost-effective and pragmatic to business operations to proceed with the secondary structure option. The works largely included the installation of a new timber frame to act as additional support, safety netting throughout and a new ceiling grid.
