Strategic property consultancy Rapleys has launched its second new service in Building Consultancy this year with the set-up of a specialised Health & Safety offer to be led by Harri Drysdale who joins the business from Tetra Tech.
Harri’s team will include services such as CDM Principal Designer, Principal Designer Building Regulations, Client CDM Advisor, Construction Health & Safety Advice with CPD and training delivery.
Harri joins with over 15 years’ experience in the Health & Safety field working for businesses including Andrew Goddard Associates, BDP Limited, Wood plc, AECOM and WT Partnership.
The move comes as the Building Safety Act has increased the complexity of building and construction services, with compliance a growing concern among the industry and notable gaps in the role of principal designers and responsibilities among consultancy teams.
Earlier this year, Rapleys launched a new retrofitting service, with the appointment of Titus Wing to lead the team, serving clients across residential and commercial portfolios nationally. Retrofitting has also seen greater acceleration in demand this year thanks to legislation such as Awaab’s Law, the Building Safety Act and MEES meaning assets need to be upgraded to comply in order to meet standards. Those that do not comply will see landlords and investors facing fines or be unable to transact their assets on top of waning tenant demand for poorer quality stock.
At the beginning of the year, Rapleys launched a new team and office in Cardiff, led by Dan Jones who is also a Partner and specialist in Building Consultancy.
Simon Harbour, Head of Building Surveying at Rapleys said: “Growing demand for building services, together with changing legislation has meant that we saw an opportunity to bring in specialists to lead new service offers within our Building Consultancy division. These are services that join up the dots with our existing expertise and will be a real value add to clients looking to build resilience into their projects, assets and developments as part of their overall strategy. The previous new services we launched this year have already seen huge demand and have slotted in perfectly with our existing offer. We know that Health & Safety will further complement our building consultancy division and provide reassurance to clients that this is very much a core part of our advice and that this crucial element is not missing from their project, but in fact very much prioritised.”
Harri Drysdale added: “I am really excited to join the Rapleys business and be part of its ongoing growth story. Health and Safety is a core concern across the built environment, and, with changing legislation, many clients are fearful of not being compliant or it falling between the cracks with the lack of a clear principal designer role or embedded strategy. With Health & Safety services now firmly embedded as part of Rapleys’ Building Consultancy division, we are able to ensure it is an essential part of our overall client and project strategy, working collaboratively in the clients’ best interests.”
Over the last few years, Rapleys has grown across all of its core divisions in addition to Building Consultancy, with several new teams, hires and services also across Commercial, Planning and Residential, with turnover increasing by over 20% across the UK and profits reinvested into further sustainable growth and its industry-leading People Plan which has helped hire and retain talent.
